Client-facing documents generally want the sober version of the term. Link equity means the same thing as the plumbing metaphor but frames authority as an asset that accumulates, gets allocated, and can be wasted through poor architecture. That framing is more useful in practice, because it prompts the right question — not how much authority does this page have, but where is it currently being spent and is that where it should go.
